2020 and the world stood by helpless as the global economy crumbled. Paper currency became worthless overnight and countries merged in an attempt to stave off anarchy and sustain themselves with each others natural resources. Several main countries emerged and are scrambling to take control of what little is left:
UCAS (United Canadian and American States)
Canada merged with its southern neighbor creating the UCAS, a country stretching across all of North America. Surprisingly to some, Canada came out on top, with the new government's capital becoming Toronto in the newly created 'state' of Ontario. The UCAS is scrambling to consolidate it's hold within its borders and is already looking south in hopes of 'acquiring' more southern resources to complement it's already impressive food and oil supply.
LAC (Latin American Coalition)
The LAC was a surprise to the world, as major South American and Caribbean countries quickly created the LAC in hopes of finally throwing off their dependence on 'outside nations' for their survival. The LAC is trying to claim the Gulf of Mexico as part of its territory in hopes of providing itself with that regions rich oil resources. With it's capital in Mexico City, the LAC is looking north and thinking the southern portions of the newly formed UCAS would provide not only territory but weaponry thanks to the former USA's military bases.
UEN (United Eurpoean Nations)
The core of the old European Union (EU) quickly developed a power base and formed its own coalition in an attempt to prevent catastrophe and to 'preserve the cultural integrity of Europa'. England, France, Spain, Portugal, Italy and other smaller European countries merged, putting their power base in centrally located Paris. The differences in culture are making merging slow, but the fear that a more powerful group may come out of old Russia is spurring them to action.
RRN (Republic of Russian Nations)
The RRN declared itself almost overnight, but little is known of this new republic. Rumors spread that the Russians have brought back the old USSR, others say there are many internal struggles for power. No one is sure who's really in charge and other countries won't know until the new RRN shows itself on the new world stage
PPME (Pan-Pacific Mongolian Empire)
The Pacific rim nations of old quickly folded when a massive military force descended on them from mainland China. Declaring themselves the PPME, what was once China is quickly and aggressively taking land and resources in the Pacific. Feared before the Fall for being closed off from the rest of the world, it is doubled as nations realize that the PPME could have global ambitions. Early attempts at both communication and infiltration by other new nations have resulted in dismal failure. The world can only wait and see what the PPME does in the future.
While these 5 new countries seem to be the 'new' superpowers, there are still many of the old countries that have yet to be contacted. Places like Australia, the Middle East and Africa seem to have disappeared, with no communication coming out of any of these areas. Are more new nations being formed or are these lands and people looking to join with one of the superpowers? Only time will tell.
Game One of the Global Warfare series features 3 nations, the UCAS, LAC and UEN. All 3 are desperate to both consolidate their own positions, as well as obtain needed resources to maintain their new and still fragile countries. Little is yet known of the other 2 rumored nations, and everyone is trying to discover if these are potential allies or enemies.
